Having the following factors may put you at higher risk for developing diabetes:
- Being overweight
- Carrying most of your fat in your stomach area
- Not being physically active
- Having a parent or brother or sister with diabetes
- Being a certain race — including blacks, Hispanics,
American Indians, and Asian-Americans
- Being age 45 or older
- Having prediabetes
- Giving birth to a baby weighing more than 9 pounds or having gestational diabetes when you were pregnant
