DATA is providing a new service to help residents access fresh, healthy foods. The free shuttle to the Farmer's Market will run Saturdays every 15 minutes between 7:30 and 11:45 a.m., July 19 to August 23.
Riders can catch the bus at Durham Station, 515 W. Pettigrew St. to the Durham Farmers’ Market on Foster St. The shuttle will be a Bull City Connector bus designated with a “SPECIAL” head sign. Riders will be able to track the shuttle through GoLive.
In an effort to educate Durham County adults and their extended families, DDC has created a packet of educational materials, “Family, Food and Facts: An Introduction to Type 2 Diabetes.” to be used this summer at family reunions. Each packet includes information sheets, alternative recipe ideas, a diabetes risk test and a DVD with a mixture of educational videos and informational segments from the DDC’s TV show, “Living Healthy.”
The eighth episode of the DDC television series, "Living Healthy" is now available. This episode features the Community Health Coalition, tips for eating healthy when dining out, the A Healthier Durham challenge, ways to remember when to take medications, diabetes myths and a Durham resident living with diabetes.
